Ice rink Berlin: frequently asked questions

Where can I find an indoor ice rink in Berlin?
Winterquartier Berlin is an indoor ice rink and event venue in Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany — a covered rink of real ice in the middle of the city. Everything is indoors, so ice skating and events go ahead whatever the weather: rain, snow or wind.
What makes the ice rink in Friedrichshain special?
About 1,000 m² of real ice, close to Ostkreuz in central Berlin. Music and lights set the mood. Everything from open skating to the ice disco.
Can I hire ice skates?
Yes. Skate hire on site covers a wide range of sizes, so most guests will find a comfortable fit. Penguin skating aids help children and beginners find their balance on the ice.
Do I need a ticket in advance?
No. A ticket in advance is not compulsory, but we recommend booking your slot online, as time slots are limited.
Are there discounts?
Discounts apply to several groups, including children, students, pensioners and people with disabilities; proof is required. School classes get special group rates.
What are the ice rink’s opening hours?
The season runs from November to February each year, in line with the venue’s usual winter opening hours. Exact daily times vary by date and event, so check the online calendar. The ice disco runs on Friday and Saturday nights, with a DJ, lights and 80s and 90s tracks alongside the regular skating sessions.
Can I bring my own ice skates?
Yes, bring your own ice skates if you prefer. No skates? Hire a pair on site and get straight onto the ice surface.
Is Bavarian curling available?
Yes. You can book Bavarian curling lanes separately from the main ice rink. They work well for groups, teams and corporate clients — and no previous skating experience is needed.
Is the ice rink suitable for children?
Penguin skating aids and child-friendly areas all help first-time skaters get started on the ice. They suit children and adult beginners alike, so nobody needs previous experience to enjoy a session at the rink.
Can I hire the ice rink for a party?
Yes. We offer packages for company parties, Christmas parties, birthdays and team events. Send us an enquiry through the form on our website.
How do I reach the ice rink?
Near Ostkreuz, with easy access by S-Bahn and U-Bahn, bus or bike. Parking is limited.
Does ice skating go ahead in bad weather?
Yes. The ice rink is fully covered, so skating continues whatever the weather.
Is there food and drink available?
On-site food and drinks range from snacks to mulled wine (Glühwein).
How long is a ticket valid?
Each slot usually runs for 90 minutes. The ice surface is resurfaced between sessions.
Are pets allowed?
No. Pets are not allowed on the ice surface, for safety reasons.
Can I take photos and videos?
Yes, as long as other guests are not disturbed. Different rules may apply at events.
Is parking available?
Winterquartier Berlin sits on railway land, where parking is generally not allowed and carries a €45 fine. We recommend public transport. Coming by car? Look for a space in the surrounding Rudolfkiez neighbourhood. Important: buy a pay-and-display ticket.
When is the season?
The season usually runs from late November to late February. Check the website for the current 2026/27 dates.
Why is the ice rink a good fit for school classes?
It's centrally located, has class-friendly rates and penguin skating aids - so a school outing is easy to organise.
